Mahindra NU IQ Platform Revealed On Independence Day: A New Era Of SUVs
Mahindra has chosen a historic day — India’s 79th Independence Day — to unveil its brand-new NU IQ platform, a future-ready monocoque architecture that will serve as the foundation for its upcoming SUV lineup. This flexible and modern platform will underpin the much-anticipated Vision S, Vision X, Vision T, and Vision SXT, all of which were showcased earlier in concept form.
What Is The NU IQ Platform?
The Mahindra NU IQ platform is designed with versatility at its core, offering flexibility to support different body styles, powertrains, and sizes. It is capable of housing both traditional ICE engines as well as all-electric powertrains, making it a future-proof solution for Mahindra’s global SUV ambitions.
Mahindra emphasizes that this new architecture will deliver a commanding SUV-like seating position and a best-in-class 227 mm ground clearance — keeping the rugged DNA intact.
Size & Off-Road Capability
Despite being a monocoque, the NU IQ doesn’t compromise on off-road credentials. The platform can accommodate SUVs ranging from 4.3 to 4.5 metres in length, with a 2.6-metre wheelbase, and boasts some impressive off-road geometry:
| Parameter | Mahindra NU IQ |
|---|---|
| Approach Angle | 28° |
| Breakover Angle | 28.2° |
| Departure Angle | 34.9° |
These numbers ensure that future Mahindra SUVs built on this platform will not only look tough but also perform confidently off the road.
Safety & Handling
Safety is central to Mahindra’s design philosophy, and the NU IQ is built to achieve 5-star ratings in both Global NCAP and Euro NCAP crash tests.
Another highlight is the 5-link rear suspension, a setup usually reserved for premium and luxury cars, promising a strong balance of ride comfort and handling stability.
Spacious Interiors & Boot Capacity
Mahindra has also ensured that cabin practicality is a strong point for NU IQ-based SUVs. Thanks to its flat floor design, rear-seat passengers get maximum comfort. Here are the interior space highlights:
| Parameter | Mahindra NU IQ |
|---|---|
| Space Between Two Rows | 830 mm |
| Second-Row Legroom | 937 mm |
| Second-Row Shoulder Room | 1404 mm |
| Boot Space | 450 L (seatback) / 644 L (up to roof) |
Alongside practicality, the platform will also support latest-gen connected car technology and cloud-based features, keeping Mahindra SUVs in step with global automotive trends.
Launch Timeline
The first production SUV based on the NU IQ platform will be the Mahindra Vision S, which is expected to enter production in 2027. The Vision X, Vision T, and Vision SXT will follow in phases, further expanding Mahindra’s premium SUV lineup.
